IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cornelius P.
Krahn
October 12, 1942 – July 27, 2025
Cornelius Krahn was born on October 12, 1942, to Peter and Helena (Wiebe) Krahn in Morris, Manitoba. He was the eldest of nine children. On July 27, 2025, at the age of 82, he was called home to be with his Saviour. He passed away peacefully at the Heimstaed Lodge in La Crete, Alberta, surrounded by his loving wife and all his children, as he crossed over the Jordan into eternal rest.
Dad spent the first eight years of his life in the Altona rea Manitoba, where he worked alongside his family in the beet fields. In 1950, when he was eight years old, the family made the move to La Crete, Alberta. It was a long and rugged trip in an old Model T, with nights spent sleeping under the stars, before finally settling on their homestead just north of La Crete.
Life on the farm demanded a lot, and as the eldest son, Dad carried significant responsibility from a very young age. Even in his preteen and teenage years, he took on many of the daily chores and looked after the farm – especially during times when his mother was ill and his parents were away at the hospital. Because of the many responsibilities at home, Dad was unable to attend much school. He stayed back to help with the work and ensure the household and farm were cared for. These early years shaped hi character – instilling in him a quiet strength, deep resilience, and a tireless work ethic that remained with him all his life.
As a young man, Dad worked in various industries. While still single, he hauled lumber from La Crete area to Peace River and Grimshaw. He also worked in logging camps for many years, hand-felling trees with a chainsaw. After he was married, he spent several winters slashing in the Rainbow Lake area and worked at a planer mill in High Level. These were tough but formative experiences that built on the strength and determination he had learned as a boy.
Dad met his beloved wife, Eva Peters, while she was also homesteading nearby. After a time of courtship, they were married on November 7, 1965, in his parents' shop just north of La Crete. They lived in a small cabin on the property for a year before moving to their own homestead northeast of town, where they raised six children and farmed grain and cattle together.
He had a special love for animals and was known for his willingness to help others with sick or injured livestock. No matter the hour, if someone in the community called, he would go. Horses were especially dear to him, and he often reminisced about the good old days of working the land with them – thrashing, plowing, and hauling. His last horse, Barney – a big Belgian – held a particularly special place in his heart.
Dad was a social and relational man who loved to visit and connect with others. Whether at a church gathering, on the road, or around the table at home, he enjoyed meaningful conversations and was always willing to lend a hand. His kindness, sincerity, and sense of humour left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith in the Lord, hard work, humility, and deep commitment to both family and community. His family was his joy. He affectionately called his grandchildren his "brighties" – because they truly lit up his life.
Those left to cherish precious memories are, his beloved wife, Eva and their six children:
Barbara and Harvey Fehr, La Crete, Alberta
Katherine and Milton Friesen, Creston, British Columbia
George and Pat Krahn, Edmonton, Alberta
Valerie and Bert Boese, Red Deer, Alberta

He was blessed with 15 grandchildren:

And 16 great-grandchildren:
Danae, Krista, Kyler, Melanie, Adalyn, Casper, Kalya, Monty, Victoria, Tanner, Thomas, Lane, Kaylee, Matthew, Cassidy, and Chloe
As we say goodbye, we do so with heart full of gratitude for the gift of his life and the memories we carry. His presence will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Creator.
Till we meet again, Dad.
