IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlotte
Toews
June 24, 1933 – December 21, 2022
Charlotte Toews, our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was born on June 24, 1933, to Isaac & Mary Wiebe. She was born in Steinbach, MB, the only one of eight children to be born in a hospital.
She peacefully passed away in the quiet hours of the evening on December 21, 2022, at the Westview Care Community, Linden, AB, one month after our dad.
At three months old she and her family moved to Linden, AB. Mom took her education at the Antler School about a mile away from where they lived. The creek where she crossed to go to school, was where she and her siblings learned to swim and skate.
In her youth, Mom accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She was always concerned that her children and grandchildren live right and make it to Heaven. She often told us that she prayed for us all the time, prayer was very important to her.
After turning 21 Mom took her nurses training in Calgary together with her friend Shirley Dixon. After she was done her training, she went to work in the polio ward in Edmonton which were some of the most rewarding years of her life.
On June 7, 1959, Mom married our dad Joe K. Toews in Linden, AB. They were blessed with 4 daughters. Dawn and Becky were born in Three Hills. Staphene and Veronica were born in Spirit River after their move to the northern Alberta homestead.
In 1979 Lyla joined the family as a foster child. She was later adopted and became a member of the family.
Throughout her life, Mom had many passions. One of them was growing flowers and sharing them with friends and neighbors. She also loved writing poetry, which she eventually compiled into books.
Mom was a lover of people and never met a stranger in her travels. We often marveled at all the people she befriended.
She was a passionate and frugal person and passed on these attributes to us girls. We learned to use our money carefully and make something out of nothing. Mom loved singing, animals, gardening, camping, collecting rocks and anything in nature.
Those who will miss Charlotte dearly are her 4 daughters Dawn Toews of Stony Plain, AB, Becky & Stanton Johnson of Sexsmith, AB, Staphene & Lorne Reimer of Hythe, AB, and Veronica & Kendall Unruh of Copeland, KS; brother Claude & Mildred Wiebe; sister Betty Jantz; brothers-in-law Danny & Linda Toews, and Doug & Leah Toews; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Those gone before her are her husband, 1 daughter, 4 sisters, 1 brother, her parents-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.
Our heartfelt thanks to Westview Care Community for the care they have given Mom the last several years.
