Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a life well lived, that the family of Barbara Penner announce her passing on March 29,2022 at the hospital in Three Hills. Barbara Joy Penner (nee Crawford) was born at Florence Prices home across from the Bethel Fellowship Church on August 4, 1935. She grew up on the family farm, with her 4 siblings, east of Three Hills and attended Bethel School. The Bethel Church, held in the same building, was a familiar place for her and her family. Barbara always loved baking and helped in her home to provide meals and delicious desserts for the family. Her love of baking carried on throughout her life and many can attest to the amazing cinnamon buns, pies, and cakes they sampled at her table. She and Fred were always generous hosting family, friends, neighbors, salesmen and even strangers who happened by for various reasons. Barb met Fred the best husband ever when she was working as a nurses aide at the Three Hills hospital and Fred had appendicitis. They were married on September 14, 1957. Their 3 sons Lorne, Lyle and Larry arrived, keeping their home busy. Barb loved babies and enjoyed each little bundle. Her skills in the kitchen were well used keeping her boys fed and she became adept at navigating the banter that came with 3 boys jockeying for first place. Each claiming to be the favorite son right to the end. She was quick-witted, often setting them straight with a clever one-liner. Barbs faith was evident in the way she believed firmly in loving those around you, especially family, but also the larger community. She continually believed that God was in charge and had a plan she could trust. It came out in the way she accepted each new challenge she faced especially after Freds passing. Her inner strength and determination was admirable and her ability to laugh even when things looked bleak was a testament to her unwavering belief in God. Barb was predeceased by her soul mate Fred, her parents Clarence and Kaleida Crawford, her in-laws David and Annie Penner, her brother Les, her sisters and their husbands, Marie and Hugh Sommerville, and Joan and Ken Stroschein, her sister-in-law Linda and brother-in-law George. She will be dearly missed by her sons Lorne (Rita), Lyle, Larry (Marianne) as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tabitha Penner (Ocean), Rachel and Stephen Musslewhite (Oslo and Eloise), Stephanie and Victor Foroutanpay, Luke and Sydney Penner, Kim and Greg Beres (Taryn and William), Blaine and Brittany Penner, and Jessica Penner, her sister Bonnie (Alex) Cunningham, and sister-in-law Gertie Crawford, her brothers-in-law Lloyd (Laura) Penner, Bob (Edith) Penner, Jerry (Mildred) Penner, Ernie (Claudette) Penner and sister-in-law Lil Penner.
