IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arend
Klosse
March 16, 1928 – November 7, 2023
On November 7, 2023, Harry Klosse stepped peacefully into the presence of his Heavenly Father. Harry was born on March 16, 1928, in the village of Nieuw Leusen in the Netherlands. His parents operated a bakery and grocery store. He grew up during the depression years and helped in the bakery which set the course of his life. After grade school, he attended high school in the town of Zwolle. Every day he biked many kilometers to attend high school. He also delivered many loaves of bread using his bike. As a family, they experienced difficult years under the Nazi occupation. Harry served two years with the Dutch Armed Forces in Indonesia. On completion of service, he returned to the Netherlands to continue working in his parents' bakeshop. Growing up and even after the war, it was always his intention to eventually take over the bakery. This all changed due to his relationship with his high school friend Allie Belt. They became sweethearts. The economy changed and it became apparent that the bakery would no longer be profitable. Harry and Allie began talking about Canada and the opportunities it would give them to build a new life together.
They were married April 21, 1954. Ten days later they boarded a ship to immigrate to Canada. They were very excited about moving to a new country. They settled in the little town of Creemore, Ontario where Harry found employment as a baker. During this time Gerald, Greg and John were born and brought more excitement while exploring their new surroundings. Harry and Allie attended a Leighton Ford/Billy Graham crusade in Barrie, Ontario where they became followers of Christ and developed a strong desire to serve Him. In 1964, a series of circumstances led them to move to Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. For the next 29 years, Harry served as the baker until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he enjoyed many hours of volunteering in the bakeshop, the library and landscaping in various locations. Harry loved to read and kept up to date about current events, especially in relation to the Netherlands.
Harry will be lovingly remembered by: his sons and their wives, Gerald and Brenda, Greg and Vivian, and John and Sandra; Six grandchildren, Christi, Nathan and Dani, Matthew and Jen, Xavier (Bailey), Jake, and Jessie; Brother Gerrit and Jenny Klosse from the Netherlands, Johann Klosse from the Netherlands; Brother-in-law Ralph and Elaine Belt; Sister-in-law Diane Belt; Brother-in-law Francis and Carol Younker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews both in the Netherlands and Canada.
Harry was predeceased by his wife Allie Klosse, parents Gerrit and Gezina Klosse, in-laws Hendrik and Gerritdina Belt, granddaughter Aimee Klosse, sister-in-law Marry Klosse, sister-in-law Tina Belt, and sister-in-law Fran Younker.
