Obituary

Annette Susie Thiessen was born May 31, 1934 in Waterloo, Ontario to Henry and Susanna Hiebert, the youngest of seven children. She was very cheerful and ambitious and learned to drive as a teenager. She loved roller skating and had some scars and a bad knee to prove it. In school she had trouble with stammering but was always able to read Scripture without trouble and her teacher allowed her to read out loud from the Bible in class. After graduating from high school Annette attended Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg where she met Vic Thiessen from Namaka, Alberta. After college they were married in Kitchener, Ontario on December 29, 1956. Vic attended university in Waterloo for two years and Vic Jr was born during this time in 1958. The family then moved to Calgary where David was born in 1959. They then moved to Hussar where Vic got a teaching job. Ruth was born in 1962. They then moved to Coaldale where Vic taught at the Alberta Mennonite High School. Heather was born in 1964. Their next move was to Namaka near Vic's parents. Vic taught in Carseland and was also farming. In 1969 they moved to Linden where Vic continued to teach and farm. They lived in Linden most of their remaining years except for two years in Europe and a few years back in Namaka. They ran a restaurant in Acme in the mid 90's and another restaurant in Linden in the early 2000's. Vic passed away in 2009. Annette worked at the Linden Lodge from 2002 until 2016, finally retiring when she was 82! She greatly enjoyed caring for those "old people", many of whom were younger than her. She thrived at organizing big birthday parties at the Lodge. She will also be long remembered for the 80th birthday gala she put on for herself. Annette loved gardening. She loved having family in the house. She loved helping children who were struggling in school. She spent countless hours sitting or singing with residents in the nursing home. Her Sunday school students are still raving 40 years on about how much they loved her as a teacher. In April of 2021 she had a stroke which left her unable to walk and she spent the last year of her life in long term care. The last 3 months were near to home at Westview Care Community. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Annette was predeceased by her parents Henry and Susanna Hiebert, her husband Vic, sisters Agnes ( Howard) Kramp, Elizabeth, Adeline (Ed) Funk, Wanda (Abe) Goerz, Brother Henry (Jean), sister-in-law Alyce Hiebert, granddaughter Bailey Thiessen at birth and grandson James Thiessen.
