IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alvina Philipina
Weigum
August 18, 1929 – November 19, 2025
Alvina Philipina Weigum (Herrmann), aged 96, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, in Olds, Alberta.
Alvina was born on August 18, 1929, in Burstall, Saskatchewan, to Wihelm and Anna Herrmann. As the oldest of ten children, she quickly embraced a loving, motherly role within her family. She met Paul, and they were married on August 25, 1946. Their family soon grew with the arrival of three sons: Keith (March 29, 1947), Doug (August 1, 1948), and Dale (March 24, 1951).
Farm life in Sunnyslope was never dull with three energetic boys. Alvina was the cornerstone of the home, raising chickens, tending a large garden, and creating the "best harvest meals in all of Kneehill" as an excellent cook. She was also a talented seamstress. Later, to support her elegant tastes and passion for travel, she worked at the Co-op in Linden for 15 years, followed by a time at the local fabric store.
Alvina loved welcoming her beloved grandchildren to the farm, who spent weeks with her every summer. She delighted in feeding them homemade buns and having them help with chores—tending and butchering the chickens often being a memorable experience! She never complained when they dismantled the house to play store or dress up in her and Paul's clothes, or when a motorbike would occasionally sneak out after dark. As the years passed, she was incredibly blessed to know and love her many great-grandchildren, who were a shining light in her life.
In 1995, after 47 years in Sunnyslope, Alvina and Paul moved to Olds. As the resident decorator and social convener of their complex, she was truly in her element. Alvina loved a good gathering and celebrating family holidays.
Alvina is survived by her sons Keith (Dorothy) and Dale, and her daughter-in-law Lorraine. She is also survived by her brothers Edward and Donald, her sister Gerine (Gerald), and her sister-in-laws Diane and Dianne. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Tyler (Jackie), Gary (Meaghan), Penny (Jeff), Maclean (Jody), Tanya (Bill), and Tiffiny (Neal), and her many great-grandchildren. Alvina was truly loved and adored by her many nieces and nephews.
Alvina was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul (2007); her son, Doug (2021); her daughter-in-law, Cathy (2017); and her grandchildren, Patrick (1976) and Courtney (2002).
A burial service to honor Alvina will be held on Saturday, November 29th, at 1:00 pm at the Torrington East Cemetery.
