IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Louise
Lobdell
April 11, 1937 – January 30, 2024
Alice Louise was born on April 11, 1937, in Victor, Colorado. She was born to Clyde and Alice Shaffstall, a young married couple who were taking their first pastorate after finishing Bible School. As a child, Louise's parents taught her how God loved her and sent His Son to die on the cross for her sins. She remembered the wonderful choruses that they would sing on their many road trips. Songs like, "I Have the Joy," "I'm on the Faith Line," "What the World Needs is Jesus." It was when she was four years old, in 1941, while attending a Maranatha Summer Camp, that she wanted to accept Jesus into her heart, so Alice helped her pray, accepting God's free gift of salvation.
That same year, a sister, Esther, was born and four years later, another sister, Sharon, completed the family. Over the years, these sisters would sing many a trio together with sweet sibling harmony. In 1950, while attending a service in Cedaredge, Colorado, where Clyde was pastor, Ken Lobdell responded and received Christ into his heart and life. In 1953, Ken and Louise dedicated their lives to serve the Lord at another service. They were married on June 28, 1956, their son, Gary, was born in 1958, and daughter, Cherry, was born in 1960. In August, 1961, the family boarded a plane in response to God's call to the mission field in faraway Alaska.
Ken and Louise lived in Talkeetna, Alaska, from 1961 to 1967, where they built a chapel and reached homesteaders for Christ. It was here that Cammy joined the family in 1961. In 1967, they moved to Chilanko Forks, British Columbia, and ministered there for seven years in the Chilcotin. They moved to Three Hills, Alberta in 1974, to put their children in Prairie High School. They also began a ministry on the nearby Black Foot and Stoney reserves. Jonathan joined the family in 1975, and in 1983, they moved to Arrowwood so he could attend Hope Christian School. In 1996, Ken and Louise returned to live on the farm north of Carbon where they began a counselling ministry.
Louise was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and made each family member feel special and loved. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and accordion. She wrote the music and words for her own songs and for others. Louise had a burden for hurting people and for God's chosen people, Israel. After the loss of her beloved husband, in 2018, Louise transitioned into assisted living at the Chateau, Acute Care, and then into Three Hills Long Term Care. She continued to be a light and blessing to those around her in spite of her deteriorating health. She loved the residents and all the staff that cared for her so well. We as a family wish to thank them for their compassionate care for Louise, up to her final day.
Louise entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 30, 2024, and was predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Alice, her beloved husband, Ken, a sister-in-law, Mary Jean, and brothers-in-law Helmut and Dan. She is survived by her loving children, Gary (Val), Cherry (Ken), Cammy (Tim), and Jonathan (Sandra). She is survived by her loving sisters, Esther and Sharon, brother-in-law Louis (Joyce) and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She is survived by her 14 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren.
