Agnes Dueck Goossen Toews was born September 27, 1928, in Swalwell, AB, to Henry and Marie Giesbrecht Dueck. She peacefully passed away at St. Mary's Hospital on July 8, 2016 in Camrose, AB, reaching the age of 87. Mom spent her childhood days on the farm at Swalwell, the second oldest of 6 children. She gave her heart to the Lord at the age of 11. At the young age of 16, mom faithfully tended to her 5 brothers and sisters. On December 7, 1921, mom married George Goossen at Greenland, MB. They relocated to Abbotsford, BC for 14 years and then moved the family to Edberg, AB. George and Agnes raised their family of 3 boys and 3 girls on the farm, being married 28 years. After George died of a sudden heart attack, Mom lived alone 16 years. Then was blessed with a second marriage to Henry Toews. Residing with Henry 11 years in Sinclair, MB. They enjoyed their time together travelling to see family and sights until Henry passed away on November of 2007. Mom and Henry also had the opportunity to serve as missionaries in Newfoundland. Mom enjoyed being hospitable, sewing, gardening, flowers, sing and listening to singing. She also loved babies and enjoyed each new grandchild. Mom was a quiet, devoted Christian mother, contented with life and resigned to the circumstances that life brought to her. The words of a poem in her room describe her best: love, warmth and comfort. The day before she died, Mom told us she was ready to go to Heaven. While she spent about two weeks in the hospital she had a ready smile for everyone and an appreciation for the flowers, and singing she received. She was predeceased by both husbands, three brothers and three infant children. She is survived by sister Irene and Sid Penner, Abbotsford, BC; brother Peter and Rose Dueck, Delisle, SK; three sisters-in- law Nettie Dueck, Pincher Creek, AB; June and Frank Augustine; and Ione Dueck, Neilburg, SK; and two special friends Greta Friesen, and Vi Schartner.
