Abe Warkentin, of Didsbury, AB passed away at the Bethany Care Centre in Didsbury on June 28, 2022 at the age of 90 years. Abe was born in Munson, AB on Mar. 15, 1932 to Herman and Katherina Warkentin. He grew up on the family farm, and attended school in Munson. Many happy hours were spent in the coulees and pastures near the farm. He graduated from the Menno Bible Institute in Didsbury in 1951. On January 9, 1955 he married Mary Geddert of Gem, AB. They began their life together in Munson, and then moved to Didsbury in 1959. They farmed together until 1989, when they moved to a smaller acreage. After moving to the acreage, Abe finally had more time for his hobby of woodworking. He built a shop to house all his tools, and spent many hours there. Together with Mary, they spent several years traveling with the trailer, with trips to Alaska, Mexico and across Canada. In 2007, Abe and Mary moved to Legacy Condo in Olds. Abe was predeceased by his wife Mary, in 2010, 3 granddaughters – Rachel Sawatzky, Laura Janzen, and Ingrid Janzen, 1 great-granddaughter – Trinity Goerzen, Brother Jake Warkentin, Sisters Mary Warkentin and Erna Goerzen. In 2013, Abe married Muriel Hole, of Olds, AB. They enjoyed several years together, until he needed more care and he moved to Sunrise Olds, and then to Bethany Didsbury for his final years. Abe is lovingly remembered by his wife, Muriel Warkentin, his children - Esther (Richard) Goerzen, Elnora (Ed) Sawatzky, Lorelei (David) Loewen, John (Elaine) Warkentin, Herman (Gayle) Warkentin, Ruby (Blain) Hanrahan, Phyllis (Rod) Peters, Karla (Hank) Janzen, 30 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. We are so thankful for the wonderful staff that cared for our dad at the Bethany Care Centre in Didsbury. A Memorial Service for Abe Warkentin will be held on July 24, 2022 at 2 pm, at the Bergthal Mennonite Church, Didsbury. Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
